What scaffolding accessories do I need to build a stable scaffold?

A stable scaffold needs base jacks or base plates to spread the load, couplers to connect the tubes, and guardrails plus toe boards for safety. Add wall-tie anchor tubes to secure the structure to the building.

Yes, galvanised steel scaffolding hardware is designed for outdoor and long-term site use because the zinc coating resists rust and weathering. Hot-dip galvanised couplers, base plates and jacks stay corrosion-free through rain and damp conditions. This makes them suitable for permanent facade work and temporary access towers alike.

What is the difference between a scaffold base jack and a base plate?

A base plate is a fixed flat steel plate that spreads the scaffold load onto the ground, while a base jack (screw spindle) is height-adjustable to level the scaffold on uneven surfaces. Use base plates on firm, level ground and base jacks where you need to compensate for slopes or dips. Both distribute weight and keep the standards from sinking.

What tube sizes do scaffolding couplers and fittings fit?

Most scaffolding couplers and fittings are made for a standard tube diameter of 48.3 mm, the common scaffold tube size across Europe. Some ranges also cover 42.4 mm tube for lighter systems. Always match the coupler bore to your tube outside diameter so the clamp closes fully and grips securely.

How do you anchor scaffolding to a wall safely?

Scaffolding is anchored to a wall using wall-tie anchor tubes fixed into the structure and connected to the scaffold with couplers, usually at regular vertical and horizontal intervals. The ties resist wind and stop the scaffold pulling away or tipping. The spacing and number of ties depend on the scaffold height and the load it carries.
