Industrial castor wheels typically carry between 100 and 400 kg each, depending on wheel diameter and construction, so a set of four can support several hundred kilograms. Larger diameters and wider treads increase the load rating and roll more easily over uneven ground. Always match the total rated capacity of the set to the loaded weight of your scaffold tower or trolley, with a safety margin.

Solid rubber castor wheels are well suited to outdoor use and rough or uneven surfaces because the tread absorbs shocks and cannot puncture or go flat. The solid tread rolls quietly over concrete, paving and site ground while protecting floors from marking. A galvanised or zinc-plated steel bracket helps the castor resist rust in damp and outdoor conditions.

Industrial castors are fixed either by a bolt-hole top plate that screws onto a flat base, or by a threaded or expanding stem that inserts into a tube. Scaffold castors usually use an expanding stem sized to the tube's internal diameter, such as 48.3 mm, so they lock firmly inside the leg. Bolt-on plate castors suit trolleys and platforms with a flat mounting surface.

Choose swivel castors where you need to steer and manoeuvre, and fixed castors where you only need straight-line travel and stability. A common setup uses two swivel castors and two fixed, or four swivel castors with brakes for full manoeuvrability that can be locked. Braked castors are recommended for scaffold towers and any load that must stay stationary while in use.
