Threaded rod is commonly available in metric diameters from M6 up to M20 — including M6, M8, M10, M12, M16 and M20 — in standard lengths around 1 metre that can be cut down. Coarse metric thread is standard, and larger diameters give greater tensile and shear strength. Choose the diameter to match the nut, coupler or fixing you are using.

Threaded rod, also called studding, is a fully threaded steel bar used to fasten, suspend or join components — for example hanging cable trays and pipework, anchoring machinery, or making adjustable-length bolts. It is cut to length and secured with nuts and washers at each end. Couplers join two rods to extend the length.

Threaded rod is cut to length with a hacksaw or angle grinder, then the cut end is cleaned up by chamfering or running a nut back over the thread to restore it. Marking the cut point and clamping the rod gives a square, clean end. Winding a spare nut on before cutting, then off afterwards, helps chase any burred thread.

Threaded rod is available in zinc-plated or galvanised steel for general corrosion resistance, in stainless steel (A2/A4) for wet or exposed use, and in higher grades where greater strength is needed. Galvanised and stainless finishes suit outdoor and damp environments, while bright zinc-plated steel is common for indoor fixing. Match the finish to the environment and load.

Threaded rod takes standard metric nuts and washers of the same diameter and thread pitch — an M10 rod uses M10 nuts, for example. Use a nut and washer at each end, and connectors (long coupling nuts) to join two rods end to end. GeZu Impex supplies threaded rod alongside matching nuts, washers and couplers.
