A square post sleeve is a drive-in support: you hammer the spike into the ground using a driving tool or block to protect the socket, keeping it vertical with a spirit level. It needs no concrete, which makes it faster than a concrete-in anchor, though concrete-in supports suit heavier or taller posts.

Square post sleeves are made from hot-dip galvanised steel, giving a zinc coating that resists rust and weathering for outdoor, in-ground use. The galvanising protects the buried spike from soil moisture and makes the support suitable for permanent garden and fencing applications.
